WHAT MAKES A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR FUE METHOD
Hair transplant has become increasingly common, adopted by reality televisions stars, actors, cricket players and lots of others.
Who makes a good candidate for a hair transplant?
The colour of your hair – especially how it relates to your underlying skin colour – is of great importance. The less contrast there is between hair and scalp colour, the better a candidate you will be for a hair transplant, as there will be increased potential for better coverage.
Hair calibre – or cross-sectional area – is incredibly important in identifying the best candidates for hair transplants. The appearance of baldness, particularly where the hair is thinning but still evident, is due to light penetrating past sparse or absent hair, and then being reflected off the scalp. So, the thicker the hair that is in place to block the light, the less the appearance of baldness will be.
The shape of your individual hairs is also important. Generally speaking, the more curl or wave your hair has, this will grant more coverage to the scalp. An excellent example of this is Afro-Caribbean hair, which tends to be tightly wound or kinky – and therefore has wonderful coverage properties, as it stands thick and mat-like above the scalp, blocking the light.
A relatively simple requirement, the looser your scalp is, the easier it is for the surgeons to insert new follicles. So, if you have an exceptionally tight scalp, a hair transplant may not be for you.
Men with ‘Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia’ should not be getting hair transplants. These men have an unhealthy donor supply, and this makes them a poor candidate. It would be a waste of both time and money.
Hair transplantation is a long term solution to a long term problem. Several surgeries might be needed to achieve the result you are looking for.
Here’s a little exercise to help you. Imagine what your life was like with a full head of hair? Imagine what is your life now that you don’t have a full head of hair? – what do you see, hear and most importantly, feel if you have a full head of hair again? Now, focusing on those feelings, write down three words that describe how you feel – use words such as confident, energised, happier or focused.
Now focus on those three words. What do you already do or have in your life right now that gives you those feelings? What else would give you those feelings now or in the future? Would hair really be the best way to achieve these feelings?
Having a hair transplant is not a panacea for making your life better. However, it may be a personal satisfaction that will contribute to confidence, passion, personality and improved appearance. A good candidate knows that the process won’t solve all the problems, nor will it automatically make you happy.
Most important of all to a guy meeting you for the first time is the energy that you exude. There is absolutely nothing (and I mean nothing) that a guy finds more attractive than confidence. If you can carry yourself assertively and possess a strong sense of self, a guy will take notice immediately, no matter what your other characteristics are. Now that’s universally sexy.
